The Committee of the Regions has to be one of the two most obscure elements of the EU "legislature" (the other one has to be the Economic and Social Commitee). Heck, it doesn't even legislate, it just opines.

So W(hy)TF is breakingnews.ie reporting the unengrossing fact  that some councillor I've never heard of used Gaeilge at/in it today? And claiming that "Irish used for first time at EU level".

Eh, no. The, eh, UK resident
and MEP Bairbre de Brún, the Irish citizens and MEPs, Mairin Harkin, Simon Coveney, Liam Awylward, Proinsias de Rossa, Seán Ó Neachtain, Jim Higgins and Brian Crowley have already used a cupla focal in Parliament as has Minister Noel Tracey in the Council. And they have power in EU the legislature
